About Flowers

We thought it would be fun to give you some of the meanings of the different flowers, so we have put together a list for you. During the Victorian ages they send flowers to let someone know that they were feeling romantic, since it was inappropriate to express your feelings toward another person. They assigned a special meaning for a certain flowers, so they could send special hidden messages to the one they had romantic feelings for. This helped get around some of the social rules they had to live by. We also found the different flowers for the birth month. Here is what we found, hope this is some fun information for you to explore.

The January flower is the Carnation, it has a meaning of fascination, distinction, and love. There are several meanings for the colors of the carnation, the red one means my heart aches for you, the pink means I will never forget you, the yellow says you have disappointed me, and the striped ones say I wish I could be with you.

The February flower is the Lilac, it means chastity, faithfulness, and humility. During the Victorian era the messages were sorted according to the color, the violet means I will always be true, and the cream and white was for let’s take a chance.

The March flower is the Jonquil (Daffodil or the Narcissus), it means domestic happiness and friendship. There is also a hidden meaning for the Jonquil, which is you are an Angel. This was favored during the Victorian era.

The April flower is the Sweet Pea, it means good-bye or blissful pleasure. It also has a hidden meaning, which is thank you for a lovely time.

The May flower is the Lily of the Valley, it signifies humility and sweetness. This flower also has a hidden meaning, which is you have made my life complete.

The June flower is the Rose, it symbolizes beauty and love. The colors give it a hidden meaning, like the red rose means I love you, the white means I am worthy of you, the orange rose is my secret love, yellow means I am not worthy of your love, the pink rose means please believe me, the white and red means you are inseparable.

The July flower is the Larkspur (Delphinium), it means open-hearted and ardent attachment. The hidden message is according to the color of the flower, the pink is for fickleness, the white means joy and happy-go-lucky, the purple means a sweet disposition.

The August flower is the Gladiolus, it means sincerity or strength of character. The hidden message is love at first sight. It is also known as the Sword Lily.

The September flower is the Aster, which means love, faith, wisdom and symbolizes valor. Take care of yourself for me is the hidden meaning for it. It is also called a Stalwart or September flower.

The October flower is the Marigold(Calendula), it symbolizes sympathy or sorrow. It's hidden meaning is my thoughts are with you.

The November flower is the Chrysanthemum (mum), it means love and cheerfulness. The hidden meaning is you are a wonderful friend. According to Feng Shui this flower will bring happiness and laughter to your home.

The December flower is the Narcissus, it means respect, modesty, and faithfulness. The hidden meaning is you're the only one. It is also known as the daffodil.

Calla Lily means: magnificent beauty and purity

Gerbera Daisy means: innocence, purity, cheerfulness

Hyacinth means: sincerity

Orchid means: magnificent and beauty

Peony means: happy marriage

Stephanotis means: happiness in marriage

Tulip means: declaration of love
